For a short honeymoon built around a historic city, start with Dubrovnik. For a longer island stay with swimming and time outside town, consider Hvar. The deciding detail is often your hotel address: a harbour hotel and a secluded resort can feel like different holidays even on the same island.
Dubrovnik: a city stay with time by the sea
Choose Dubrovnik if you want to return to the Old Town for dinner without planning a boat journey. Hotel Excelsior is a useful starting point for a hotel outside the walls. Villa Dubrovnik offers another coastal setting farther along the eastern side of the city.
Compare the actual room categories. A sea view, an Old Town view and a balcony are separate features; one does not establish the others. Ask about the walking route, slopes and transfers if these will affect your evenings.
Hvar: choose the part of the island first
Palace Elisabeth and Adriana Hvar Spa Hotel suit couples who want Hvar Town close at hand. Adriana has a covered rooftop pool and a separate rooftop bar; do not picture the pool as an open-air cocktail terrace.

Swimming, privacy and evenings out
A hotel beach area does not automatically mean an exclusively private shoreline. Check whether entry is from pebbles, rocks, steps or a platform and whether loungers are included. Bellevue in Dubrovnik overlooks a pebble cove, not a sandy beach.
Hvar Town can suit couples who enjoy lively evenings. A quieter address may suit early nights, but no hotel location guarantees silence or an empty beach. Ask about nearby venues and any events during your stay.
Getting there and comparing costs
Dubrovnik has a mainland airport. Hvar adds a sea crossing, so flight arrival time, ferry port and seasonal timetable matter. Check the actual route before committing to non-refundable hotels. A final mainland night can provide a useful buffer before flying home.
Neither destination is reliably cheaper for every date. Compare the same room standard, breakfast, cancellation terms and transfer costs. Honeymoon amenities and upgrades are requests unless your written rate includes them.
