Choose Croatia if your ideal holiday combines Adriatic towns, coastal hotels and a carefully planned island stop. Shortlist a specific Greek island if its beaches or landscape are what you most want. For a week, the better choice is usually the route that gives you the right hotel and fewer awkward transfers, rather than the country with the longest sightseeing list.
Greece or Croatia: a quick comparison
These are starting points for a shortlist, not claims that every destination in either country is the same. Croatia has sandy beaches as well as rocky shores. Greece has historic towns as well as island resorts.

Beaches: compare the actual swimming spot
Start with the kind of entry you enjoy. Some guests want to walk gradually into the water. Others are happy using steps from a bathing platform. Neither preference is answered by a sea-view photograph.

Greece also needs a closer look. Visit Greece describes Corfu's coast as a mixture of sandy and pebbly beaches, while Santorini's volcanic coastline includes black-sand beaches. If sand is non-negotiable, shortlist the beach first in either country. Then check the distance from your hotel entrance, shade, included loungers and seasonal service.
Towns and evenings out
For a holiday built around dinner on foot, compare neighbourhoods rather than countries. In Croatia, Dubrovnik, Rovinj and Hvar Town offer different town-based possibilities. A resort outside the centre will need a different evening plan.
Greece is not simply an alternative for resort holidays. Corfu has a historic Old Town, and Chania in Crete has an old harbour and historic quarters. Write down what an ordinary evening looks like for you. If it means a walk, dinner and another walk home, ask about the actual route, gradients and transport options before falling for a room photograph.
Which works better for a honeymoon?
For Croatia, decide whether you want a city-and-sea stay in Dubrovnik, evenings in Hvar Town or a quieter base elsewhere on an island. Our Dubrovnik versus Hvar guide helps with that decision.
For Greece, choose the landscape first. A Santorini outlook, a Corfu coastal stay and a trip around Crete are different propositions. Do not assume that a room with a private plunge pool has the same privacy, size or swimming usefulness as another hotel's pool category.
For either country, request the bed type and room view explicitly. Prioritise the details you will use daily over a longer list of facilities. Three nights in a room you love can be more valuable to your plan than an upgrade chosen only for its category name.
Which is easier with children?
Compare the arrival day, the sleeping arrangement and the water access. Those usually tell you more than a national family-friendly label. Ask whether the room accommodates the stated ages, whether connecting rooms are confirmed and what children's activities operate during your stay.

If two shortlisted hotels seem similar, compare the total time from landing to reaching your room. Include any drive to a port, waiting, crossing and onward journey. That calculation can settle the choice more effectively than another list of hotel amenities.
Is Croatia cheaper than Greece?
There is no dependable country-wide discount to apply to a luxury trip. Compare quotes for the same dates, number of nights, party size, room view, meals and cancellation conditions.
Put flights and necessary transfers beside the hotel price. A cheaper room can produce a more expensive trip if it adds another flight, private transfer or daily taxi journey. Equally, a higher room rate may fit your budget if most of the things you want are within walking distance.

A realistic week in either country
For seven days and six nights, begin with one base. If seeing two places is central to the trip, split the nights between two bases only after checking the connection. In Croatia, the seven-day route guide helps assess a multi-stop option.
On a Greek island, decide which area you will actually explore instead of assuming the whole island is a convenient day trip from any hotel. On a Croatian island, check the named arrival port, not just the island name. Verify current sailings with the operator, including the return journey; Jadrolinija publishes Croatian routes and schedules.
For spring or autumn, ask about each essential facility's operating dates. An open hotel does not necessarily mean every beach service, restaurant and excursion runs on your week. The September Croatia guide sets out those checks.
