September deserves a place on a Croatia holiday shortlist, especially if you can choose your week. It still needs date-specific planning. The month does not guarantee the warmest sea, empty towns or a fixed reduction in hotel prices.
Early September: compare the details of your stay
If your priority is hotel time and swimming, ask which pools, beach facilities and restaurants will operate. Popular rooms may still require advance planning. Check your actual quote rather than using a percentage discount against August as a budget assumption.
In Dubrovnik, compare the room location and access to the Old Town. In Split, decide whether you want a central hotel or resort facilities farther along the coast. These choices matter throughout the month.
Mid-September: leave room for changes
Combine outdoor plans with activities that can move between days. A boat excursion needs a weather alternative, and an island transfer needs a confirmed timetable. Do not use a crowded or quiet day from another year's trip as a forecast for your visit.
For Hvar, choose your base deliberately. Maslina Resort is near Stari Grad; Adriana is in Hvar Town. A dinner reservation in the other town requires transport.
Late September: verify the seasonal details
Ask the hotel for opening dates of each facility that matters to you, not just confirmation that the building is open. Restaurants, beach services and excursions can have different schedules. Check return ferry times as carefully as outward journeys.
An indoor pool or a city location can make a stay easier to adapt if the weather changes. Confirm access restrictions, opening hours and any treatment charges before treating the spa as an included daily activity.
Istria and wine-country visits
Istria offers a different September plan from island hopping. Compare a Rovinj base with a countryside stay such as Meneghetti. Contact wineries for appointment availability; harvest activity does not guarantee guest access or a tasting programme.
Arrange a driver if your day centres on tastings and you do not want to drive. Obtain an itinerary and quote rather than assuming wineries can be visited on foot from any country hotel.
Choose a shore you will enjoy using
